I am an artificer.

I sculpt.
Clay, cloth, wood, metal, pixels, polygons, lines, words, data...
All sculpting to me.

I'm in the process of starting a doll-making business.

To do:
1.) Cleanup
2.) Molds and tools need made
3.) A production cost prototype has to be made (slot filled)
4.) A production speed prototype has to be made (slot filled)

Sally is my development prototype. She's been an absolute joy and pleasure to make.

(I'm going to throw this one out sloppy, so please pardon/disregard any grammar/spelling/continuity errors that you may find.  I also pulled an all-night'er, so this counts double.) So here I am, working on Sally, (my articuplush/doll), when I realize that all the flak that I've gotten over the years for this project weren't all just people messing with me for the lulzy "I want to fit in" value; but some of these people actually believe their statements and accusations are true! So my hands are burnishing wood parts while I'm thinking "wtf?" (there's a good twenty to thirty minutes of mental chatter, about a third of the snippets containing

In your opinion, is it better to sell out and use ones artistic tallent to make things that the artist doesn't particularly care for, or things that are unpopular and nobody likes?

DeviantArt isn't about the artist it's about the art! Trash goes where it belongs, the paper shredder!
DeviantArt is about expression, not popularity and kissing up. Besides. even if your stuff is trash, you made it.
